Gold and Sound Money Are Synonymous With Peace and Prosperity.

In this report, I cover the early market action from London on Friday, April 12th, 2019. I look briefly at the precious metals, the stock market, the dollar, the bond market and the price of WTI and Brent crude oil.

Today I look briefly at the history of British public finances from the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815 and the beginning of the First World War in 1914. I recently bought a book entitled War and Gold by Kwasi Kwarteng and I was stunned about what he wrote in his introduction to the book.

Mr. Kwarteng is a Member of Parliament in the U.K. and even though he points out that he is not advocating a return to the gold standard he points out how Britain's public finances during the 19th century or the Victorian Era were run very soundly.

My conclusion about Britain's sound finances and sound money experience in the 19th century is that if America really wants to be great again it needs to go back to sound money and also go back to fiscal rectitude. Amazingly Britains's national debt decreases in the period between the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the beginning of the First World War while the British economy was transformed into a modern industrial economy at the same time.
