Infrared Video - Walking down by the stream

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

Visiting a property in North Georgia I found a flowing stream that zig-zagged through the foothills of the Appalachians. There were many trees growing along the stream. Including a large holly bush, and some former trees that were slowly decaying.

Camera ModelLumix GH3, modified by LifePixel for Full Spectrum
LensOlympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12mm-50mm
Filter720 nm Infrared Pass through filter
SpectrumInfrared (IR)
Wavelength720 nanometers
LocationNorth Georgia USA.

I came across an area where the stream dropped down into the earth. And water came out the other side about twenty feet away. Pretty cool, underwater caverns flowing through this area. I didnt see any life but im sure it was there hidden to me.

Oh a few occasions I pan up to the sky, it is an ruddy orange color due to the infrared passthrough filter I used. Being closer to the visual light spectrum colors start to show up in the video.

I take pictures with a special camera. Its a Mirrorless DSLR that has been modified by Life Pixel to see light in other wavelengths. This allows my camera to see light in the Infrared [IR] around 1300 NM wavelength, through the visual spectrum and into the Ultraviolet A and B wavelengths roughly into the 300 NM wavelength.

I carry many filters on me to make the photos you see in my blog, these filters screw on my lens and help me isolate certain wavelengths for certain scenes. These filters can be IR / UV pass-through filters to assist me get a natural photo taking out the UV and IR light. Or I may use a Infrared pass-through filter capture just IR light. I can do the same with IR light as well, though I need some better filters which they can cost a few hundred dollars for true Ultraviolet pass through filters. So for right now I have B + W 403 bandpass filters that still allow some IR light in, due to their cheaper material.

For more information on how I do my photography I have a short video on that: https://steempeak.com/photography/@solominer/vqgcrs3x

This is soo cool. I often wonder how my cat sees light and reality. Maybe you could re-create what different animals see according to your lenses? That would be a cool challenge and wonder if possible? I'm gonna check out your other post and any tips for cool photography I'm all about as a total newbie and mostly using my dinosaur phone! Perhaps I'll get out my old Cannon Powershot and mess around with that.. thanks for the inspiration!

@kimmysomelove42 yeah alot of animals can see more spectrums than us. I'm glad my camera can help to bring some of it to light. Yeah my UV and IR filters do in a way create those effects. Be careful modifying your own camera. I'd suggest sending it off to a pro to convert it.

Oh .. happy to see another IR video on Dtube ... very cool. Going to try my IR color next week.

@for91days hah yeah I looked at recent infrared tags and saw you posting there. Sweet, looking forward to it.
