The DSA Convention 2019 is pure Ideological Subversion in motion

in #dtube5 years ago

Recently the Democratic Socialists of America had a convention and clips from the convention went viral. At the convention we see speakers talk about the need for silence because of sensory overload, as well as “sent invasion”, a concept addressed which focused on how the use of perfume and cologne was a micro-aggression and an invasion of space. Individuals at the conference were also told to use “Jazz hands” for the sake of not offending others with clapping. The most impressive aspects of the convention is perhaps how simple interactions between members had become hyper complex to the point of removing interactions. I go into this as well as many other things in this video.

Sort:

I watched some of the best moments videos. It was like watching a Bill Murry comedy. The kind of unscripted humor that makes you want to tear all your hair out.

People in the comments were saying South Park lol, and that what is seemed like to me. That cat meme, with him covering his face with his paw, and the words LOLz pretty much sums it up :)

All this is about is awareness: There are people with certain problems that can easily be helped with measures which aren't that hard to implement. And, yes, sign language translation would have been preferable. Translating into all languages wouldn't be feasible for a small organization, though (see the pragmatism in discerning between a few easy steps to make people's lives much more bearable vs. unreasonable resource spending?).

You then go on to spin out convoluted points about the waste of "life resources" by using this simple example of people trying to be more considerate of other people's needs, and that's what's really defining this video.

And, yes, we know a lot more today than the people who lived during the age of enlightenment hundreds of years ago. You talk about spending energy on building a better world, but the way we treat each other, being considerate with each other, doesn't seem to be worth spending energy on for you.

Here's a suggestion: As you admit, you don't know much about sensory overload. So, perhaps you shouldn't be out and about suggesting how it should be dealt with, and that "being exposed to it" is supposedly a good way to deal with it. People with sensory overload are also not being "offended" by loud noises, they lack the ability to properly deal with them. It's not an optional reaction that somehow filters loud noise through their value system or considers it a personal attack, and then deems it inappropriate or something of the sort.

You know why you see considerations of that sort a lot on the left? It has nothing to do with economic systems or anything else of that kind: It has something to do with people on the left wing caring about other people, the notion that mutuality, solidarity are good ideas.

It's also not about free speech, it's about mode of operation (don't waltz over other people): Just like you'd probably agree that shouting down the speaker is bad form, the people in the video consider unnecessary loud noises bad form. You simply happen to choose one kind of bad form as good, and throw convoluted criticism at the other.

Lastly, I take that you think "true capitalism" would fix the oligarchy problem, but here's something to consider: Resources concentrate because people attempt to do so, and have done so for all of recorded history. I argue that de-organizing society is just likely to exacerbate the problem, not fix it. Especially with the predominant culture of infinite egoism so prevalent in today's world.

Okay, fair enough. I checked out your steemit account, and I see that you describe yourself as a "hyperpartisan left winger", which is fine. My main point is, that the system that you see projected from the left these days, uses much more of society's energy than other systems that are less conflationary. You are free to believe what you want of course. But that is my main point.
