Death of wolverine & the all new wolverine comics explained

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

One of the best things about being a Marvel fan is that no matter how many changes are made to a character, and Marvel are well know to really change things up drastically, their origins remain the same.
Let's look at Wolverine. There have been many stories told. We have seen this character in movies for the past 16 years, and grew up on the X-men animated series in the 90's. But even if you haven't yet picked up an X-Men comic, or it has been many years since the last time you have read one, you can still find comfort in the fact that his origins remain relatively untouched.
Unless you haven't heard, Logan’s Wolverine is dead. He died poetically by the one thing that made him more powerful and has been a massive part of his life, Adamantium, in a 4 part mini series called "The Death of Wolverine".
Although most of us know about his death, not many of us know about what happened afterwards. Why is the Wolverine we know and love now a female?
A 20 part series called "Wolverines" will help explain the drastic jump.
To sum it up, X-23 (Laura Kinney) is now sporting funky blue and yellow streaked hair in memory of Logan who she considers as her father even though she's just a clone of him. (There were 22 failed attempts at cloning Logan, or, weapon X, hence, X-23) So this is just as much of an emotional journey for her as it is for Daken, Logan's actual son.
Logan's mortal remains, encased in the rare and powerful metal, Adamantium, is being hunted down as a valuable artefact by heroes and villains including X-23, Sabretooth, Daken, and Lady Deathstrike, led by Mystique.
Before they can get to it though, non-other than Mr Sinister swoops in and, being the mad scientist he is, wants the artefact to clone the Wolverine, and in the process, he ripped out Daken’s eye and tore off his arm for the same reasons. This really hasn't got much to do with the story of how X-23 got to be the Wolverine, I just think it's messed up and awesome! I mean, look at it!
So brutal!
Anyway a key member of this story is often overlooked considering she was just created for this series and not very well known at all, but still cool nevertheless.
Introducing Fantomelle, the world's most unstoppable thief, a clone engineered to perfection! Written by Charles Soule with artist Andy Clarke, this bad ass chick comes complete with a dog named Culpepper who she can speak to telepathically, but it would seem their telepathic abilities are only shared between them and have no effect on others. She can also cast illusions like the one she pulled on The Punisher, creating a flame illusion in order for him to take off his shirt.
You see, Fantomelle gets hired anonymously to obtain various objects for the right price. One of these objects was Wolverines costume, hired by your beloved boy next door, Deadpool.
In the process Fantomelle also stole Wolverines iconic blue and yellow costume, and gave it to X-23 as payback for saving her life this one time.
And there you have it boys and girls! The Wolverine uniform X-23 is wearing, is actually Logans! It makes more sense now right? A daughter carrying out her father’s legacy. I think it's beautiful!
"All-New Wolverine" is still ongoing, and with names like writer Tom Taylor, penciller David Lopez, and artist Bengal, plus a lot of fun cameos and a fun new adventure, I would recommend you check it out!

Logan was always my favourite X-men 1990s cartoon character.
