The WCP Book Club - Michelle Gibson reading "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

In this episode of The WCP Book Club, our friend Michelle Gibson reads a passage from "Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck.
This passage has always been super important to us - an entire short chapter in which Steinbeck details the emotional process involved in organizing labor, turning the "I" into "We". Sadly, passages like this are just as relevant now as when Steinbeck wrote it in 1939. "You hate change and fear revolution...keep these two men apart."
Here in Chapter 14, Steinbeck astutely points out that the ideas that people decry as "socialism" are results, not causes, and issues a warning to those in control of "the things which people need to live." Take from it what you will, I won't spend too much time explaining why it is so important. If you don't already know, I'm probably not going to convince you here.

My other favorite part of this episode is Michelle. We first met her and her sister Jackie when they booked a shoot with Shannon Brooke. They live in WI, a few hours away from our office in Stevens Point, and jumped at the chance the first time Shannon scheduled shoots here.
It was great getting a chance to spend the day with them filming their videos. Michelle and Jackie are two genuinely sweet and beautiful people, and we're glad to have got to work with them.
