Advice for New eCommerce Sellers

One of the most common fears among people looking to get started in eCommerce is the fear of selecting the "wrong product" getting stuck with your inventory, and losing money.

This can happen for a couple reasons, you could pick a product that has no demand, you could pick a product that has too much competition, or you could pick a product and not properly vet your manufacture and either get ripped off or get a poor quality product.

I received an e-mail the other day from Chris who had this very concern. In this video we talk about being new to eCommerce, how to confidently get started without risking too much money, etc.

In this video I break everything down completely so watch the video but essentailly my advice boils down to a couple bulletpoints.

  1. Make sure you really want to get into eCommerce.

For anyone interested in getting started making money online or making money outside a 9 to 5 job who begins researching what to do, eCommerce is everywhere on Youtube, Blogs, Reddit so it's easy to see why so many people flock to eCommerce. There's endless amounts of ways to start a business or make money from a local service business to starting a Youtube channel to freelancing. Ask yourself why you want to get into eCommerce and make sure you either have an interest in it or you feel your skillsets are catered towards it. Make sure that's why your getting into it and not just because it's what everyone else is doing.

  1. Try Affiliate Marketing First

I love affiliate marketing and part of me feels like everyone shoudl try it before getting into eCommerce. It gives you a chance to test new niches completely risk free since it costs nothing to get started with affiliate marketing. It also helps you build up the skillsets of sales and marketing without getting distracted by or needing to also focus on how to setup a website, which payment processor to choose, sourcing products, customer service, etc.

  1. Dropshipping is an Option

While I personally am not a huge fan of dropshipping if done right its not a bad way to launch a business on a shoestring budget. Dropshipping, like Affiliate Marketing, can be a great way to test new niches and prove a concept before investing real money.

  1. Starting Small

While launching an ecom business can cost thousands of Dollars, it can also be done for $100 if you find a cheaper product and start with limited inventory. You can order generic products and custom packaging and start small and prove the concept before moving forward with a large order to meet a suppliers MOQ and private label your inventory.

For those of you who started an eCommerce business, how much did it cost initially to get your business off the ground? Any tips you could offer someone new to eCommerce? Drop your helpful advicein the comments section below...

Sort:

I have had a decent amount of success with dropshipping but for me it always has to be a company in the United States that gets their stuff out fast. I'm sort of burnt out on eCommerce right now because I got scammed a couple times on eBay recently.

I'm burnt out on crypto as well...... Sigh .......

I love eCommerce but I'd like to get into more passive stuff so maybe SAAS software, information, websites, etc. Basically stuff where I can put in the work upfront and dont' necessarily have to monitor things as closely on a daily basis.

I can't think of too many products I have lost money on either. You can usually break even if worst comes to worst. Does suck sitting on a product for ages though. Seasonal products can be the worst for that

Which affiliate marketing do u recommend? Or did use?
