I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!

I'm not immune to materialism but I have always abhorred the way it has been institutionalized in our society and how that institution has corrupted a lot of people.

Our materialistic norms are 'insane'.

Bet we've both been influenced by them tho' !

Interesting and great write-up!

I think a "modern man" underestimates the importance of social bonding - to which hunter-gatherers have/had much more time, because working less, hence why they aren't living in misery despite not having a materialistic safety-net.

Yup very fair point - so many working hours do work against that - Sahlin's does seem to be suggesting collectivism and anarchism are much more efficient!

I like sleeping being the other main activity :)

Oh me too!

It also feels about right... 4 hours work a day then the rest loafing about.

I agree, that does feel about right.
One of my sisters has an interesting job. She fits aids and adaptations for, mainly, elderly people. She has a work van and computer. Her job list arrives overnight, she starts at eight and finishes at the end of the list - usually about two pm - sends her returns and clears off. That includes time to pick up specialist supplies and restock her supply of routine handrails etc. She's a trusted assessor, so if she spots a need for a handrail etc, she can just fit it and report it. No staff meetings, no supervision, no contact with management, interesting training from time to time and a handbook with emergency contacts and "what to do if ..." she says it's the best job she's ever had.
