Fast Curious Facts #23 | They do it every year... for the ladies ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

in #education5 years ago

I've done it, everybody has done it, I bet even you guys have done some crazy shit to get the attention of that person the gentleman like myself likes to call Crush, but can you imagine being so dedicated you grow a pair of bone structure in your head every time you want to do that!? Deers are crazy!

Deers, Reindeers, Fallow Deer, even their bigger cousins like Elks and Mooses do the same female-attracting ritual of growing a huge set of bone in their head every year to say to their competition FUCK OFF! MINE'S BIGGER! and often fight with it and they do it fast, with the approaching mating season the bones start to grow surrounded by a coat of skin, veins and hair called velvet that provides the antlers with the nutrients and vitamins it needs to become a full crown, when it's all done the male sheds it's velvet, like this oh yeah, that's the spot

Once the velvet is totally shed what is left is a huge and majestic crown of bones, the male will use this to attract females to form a harem, fight off other males to maintain the harem and mate with the able females, all of that looking like a total and fabulous badass of course, after the mating season is over the antlers had completed their purpose and the blood flow to the is shut down automatically, from that point on the antlers will fall off eventually, like this oh, what a relief

From that point on they dedicate the rest of the year to raise their young and do deer stuff like looking cute and disoriented, until is time to grow a pair again... of antlers I mean, it may seem like a wasted to do that but the shed antlers feed smaller animals and insects and some buff dudes that swear it makes them look bigger :sigh: and it may be a really cool mating strategy since other species are adopting the strategy
