What can we do during this low and discouraging time on Steem? Steem has now dropped to an unexpectedly low $0.25 and we never know whether it will go below $0.2 or lower. Nonetheless, we still see there are Dapps and more projects coming up at this time. To me, it is a great time for us who really want to build infrastructure and product for the community. By kick-starting our projects now, we are able to acquire more resources like attention as there is less ‘noise’ on the platform. Another thing for me is that I want to become a lifelong learner and doer, meaning to say I am always seeking ways to increase and improve both my input and output as an individual. Well, on Steem blockchain, it is a great place to do such training from both ends.

There are two key elements for why I am keen to become a lifelong learner. One is the reason and one is the consequence.

Knowledge has its lifetime.

It is especially relevant to us nowadays for certain knowledge to get expired in a few months or days! This applies to all kinds of knowledge like technology, healthcare, psychology, biology, physics and so on. Even on blockchain development, we are seeing the change of the first generation blockchain application (Bitcoin) to second generation (Ethereum), all happened within 10 years’ time.

According to HBR, it is said that what we gained during our tertiary study can only stay relevant for 5 years and perhaps in a more distant future, what we learned can only be relevant for 2-3 years. Development had driven the generation of new knowledge on an unprecedented scale and speed. While we are enjoying and benefiting from such development, we must not forget to upgrade the relevant knowledge to stay relevant. Without the knowledge, we will not be ‘compatible’ and may easily get replaced.

Moreover, there is more information nowadays compared to the pre-internet era. It is just like 20 plus years ago when the internet started to blend into our lives and now it is part of it. During the pre-internet era, there are an only substantial group of people producing contents like scientists, academicians and leaders. On the other hand, everyone can be a content maker in this well connected time, like what I am doing now.

More time invested in learning.

With that being said, it is logic and rational for us to invest more time to keep learning and stay relevant. That is why being a lifelong learner no longer is a hype thing or a trend but a necessity for us who live in the 21st century. It is the same for our physical body whereby exercise, rest and proper meal are essential for us to keep our body sustainable.

In a nutshell, I shall be putting more time in learning for my 2019 resolutions equally on both input and output.
