Learn Guitar: Interval Spacing 6, 5, 4
Today we discuss the common interval spacing 6, 5, 4. In the key of C Ionian, we would play an Amin for the 6 interval, a Gmaj for the 5 interval, and a F maj for the 4 interval. Additionally at the end one might play a 3rd interval to add a variation, I play a major in the video even though it would actually be a minor. I find the major to add a fuller feel. As we will discuss more when learning harmonic and melodic modifications to Ionian math and fitting into scales is one thing but playing good music may be too constrained by just one scale.
One could solo to a melody utilizing these intervals using the A aeolian, or minor pentatonic or any other mode in C Ionian that would convey the feel the author desires. This interval pattern is good for a repetitive type trance feel, having the minor 6th adds an interesting feel to it.
Most of the interval patterns we discuss in this section utilize some combination of 1, 4, 5 , which is the basis of the 12 bar blues. We will discuss another inteval spacing or two, then we will move onto harmonic and melodic modes as well as triad arpeggio exercises and maybe a more in depth look at other interesting chords before re releasing improve edits for the complete first edition on the website by the end of March.
