This lesson shall focus on enumerating and explaining the notes perspective to music and specifically how that looks on a guitar in standard tuning. Though it easily could be in a different tuning. The notes perspective is just one way in which we can classify and make sense of the music universe, by dividing the tones into 12 disting ones before repeating to the octive as keys ascend and./or descend.

For the notes perspective, we will assign 12 distinct identities:

A A#/Bb B C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab A

As will be discussed in a later lesson, heuristic 1, a simple trick for remembering where there is a #/b is (the # or b, pronounced sharp, or flat respectively):

There is no #/b between E & F and there is no #/b between B & C.

This lesson will also give an example of where notes would be located if we were to map notes on guitar with standard tuning (strings in ascending order tuned as: E, A, D, G, B, E)

The note perspective is not necessarily the most efficient for our purposes. If we were trying to record a piece of music, and ensure we keep exactly the same in the same key then the notes approach might be a useful means to that.

Instead the interval approach discussed tomorrow may be more efficient for our purposes of acting intentionally. The interval approach requires 1/11 the amount of information for our purposes. It would be 1/12 but we need to keep track of the key so we guesstimate 1/11 without wanting to think about it any further.
