My dear fellow Steemians, hope you all doing fine this morning. Today I’m going to talk about politic…Wait…not the hardcore one, just the Do’s and Dont’s during election as we in Malaysia will be having a General Election tomorrow, Wednesday, 9th May 2018.

Not an expert on this but just sharing what I read, digest and understand… Sharing is Caring right!

Whether you’re a first time voter or a returning voter, there are couple of things that you need to know before going out to cast your vote for you desired candidate or party. In Malaysia, here are some of the important Do’s and Dont’s that we need to take note.

DO’S:

  1. Do not forget to bring your Identification Card (IC). Do note that you won’t be allowed to vote without your IC as the people in charge in the reception need to verify you IC. Of course this is common sense but there are some people who forget them! Make sure you check your wallet or purse to make sure that your IC is in there before going out to respective voting area.

  2. Do check the ballot paper to make sure that it has a serial number and certified stamp. If it does not has either one of these things, you have the right to ask for a new one.

  3. Do vote for your preferred party by writing “X” inside the rectangle box on the paper. Remember, no circles, no alphabets, symbols or numbers, no ticks, just an ‘X‘. Any others marking will spoil the ballot paper which will lead to ‘undi rosak’ (disqualified or spoil vote).

  4. Do make sure your ballot paper is clean and stainless, otherwise it will be consider ‘Undi rosak’ (spoil vote). Remember that your vote is valuable so don’t waste it!

  5. Do make sure your employer give you a reasonable time to go out to cast your vote, that’s if you’re on duties on that day. It is against the law if your employer deduct your salary or even imposes any penalties just because you went out for elections. You have the rights to vote and if your employer do some deduction on your salary or impost any penalties, the Law says that they are liable to a fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment for one year.

DON’TS:

  1. Do not bring umbrella, water bottle or wear clothes with logos, emblem or symbol of any political party in the voting hall. Your party choice is your P&C.

  2. Do not accept goodies such as free food or drinks offered by anyone. To play safe, just avoid taking anything from anyone. There's no such thing as treat for you for coming to vote, its your choice! We all know that these free goodies or treats could very well be given out corruptly and with ulterior motives.

  3. Strictly do not use your phone while casting a vote. Do not even think about posting it on social media like Facebook or Instagram.

  4. Do not bring any ballot papers out of the voting hall and do not use your ballot paper if it is without a serial number or official stamp, stained, damaged etc. Ask for a new one!

  1. Once you done your casting vote, do not loiter or wait around the polling stations. Remember that it is against the law to do this if you’ve already cast your vote or you aren’t a registered voter.

So, to all Malaysian, Happy Voting day tomorrow!

Please be wise and adhere the rules so that we can have a peaceful voting day.
