Founder of the Third Dynasty: The Mystery of the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh

in #egypt5 years ago

The first pharaoh of the Third Dynasty of ancient Egypt Sanctus is often presented as the first "giant" of that civilization. Sanctus ruled Egypt for about 1,000 years before Ramses II came to the throne. Ramses, which was considered to be extremely high, about 1.75 m, was "dwarfed" compared to Sanctus.

Although he ruled for 18 years, many archaeologists claim that the exact period of his reign remains a mystery.
With incredible 2 meters of height, he was a real giant for his time. It is believed that in 1901, in the small village of Beit Kalaf, archaeologists dug up his mortal remains.

Although it was unusually wide, the proportions of its long bones were adapted as with most other ancient Egyptians at that time.
In a study published in The Lancet: Diabetes & Endocrinology, it is said that the ancient Egyptian pharaoh may have suffered from gigantism. Experts from the University of Zurich, who thoroughly analyzed the remains, believe this is the oldest example of gigantism in human history.
Contrary to the popular belief, Sanctus's height did not allow any social benefits, as short statues were preferred in the early Egyptian dynasties, as there were "many small people in the royal service," experts concluded.
