Today's Mid-Term: Thoughts and Predictions

in #election6 years ago (edited)

First, I want to start by saying I believe the GOP has a better chance of protecting the House than the polls are letting on.  Why? I haven't forgotten 2016, that's why.  It's hard to forget when Clinton had over a 90% chance of winning the presidency days prior to the election and ended up losing.  So, now that I'm on record having put my prediction out there let's take a look at some thoughts on why I'm leaning this way and what I think could ensue depending on which way the vote for the house goes.

Democrats Already Doing Victory Lap

Two weeks ago, Nancy Pelosi did the rounds of late night talk shows talking as if her party had already won the House.  She seemed certain that she would be speaker of the House after the mid-terms.  This is not a very good strategy if you are looking for voter turn-out.

Remember how smug Hillary Clinton was in 2016?  She didn't even really try in debates - not that she would have to considering the media was colluding with her campaign and feeding her the questions before-hand.  She did the same late night talk show rounds we've seen Pelosi doing and with the same 'pre-mature victory mentality'.  You would think that the big upset from 2016 would still be on top of the minds of these Democrats but it doesn't appear so.

Further, the left-wing media have all but called it over and over.  In keeping with the 'polls are votes' mentality I consistently hear the talking heads on TV saying how unlikely it is that the Republicans will keep the house.  If I were a Democrat and even had a pang of laziness this would keep me from even really worrying about it.  This type of messaging doesn't fire people up but makes them complacent.

On the other side of the coin, the GOP and President Trump specifically have been pushing the message that this is "an election to protect the future of the country".  Mentioning the economy and threatening the possibility that if Democrats take either the House or the Senate then he would advise "not looking at the stock market".

The Economy

There may be some truth in President Trump's prediction considering that if either flip the stagnation in Washington would be certain to put a stop to the pro-business agenda that got our economy to where it is in the past 2 years.  That's not to say that a House win for the democrats would necessarily start us on a backwards track when it comes to the economic boom we are seeing.  The fact is that democrats would never let anything pro-business get out of the House and the republicans would never vote for more senseless regulation in the Senate.  So, we would be in an economic consolidation period for a couple of years or more.

That's not a terrible thing to hear considering where we are but considering the 10 year stagnation we are finally coming out of I think it would just be a bummer to see things go sideways.  Also, say good-bye to the rapid wage growth that we just started seeing.  Take away the ability to create jobs and you'll find that our issue with not having enough workers will go away and there will be no reason to pay the current workers more.

This is the kind of critical thinking that Meme's have ruined for our society.

General Civility

If you think that voting in Democrats will somehow restore civility then congrats!  You have a better outlook.  Either that or you haven't been paying attention to the Kavanaugh hearing, Clinton loser tour, O'bama post-presidential new president bash tour, etc, etc.

give the limelight to Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and my guess is that they will be worse and maybe we can all just get a chance to see more of it.

Media

Nothing will change at all either way.  The only thing that would be fun is if the Majority in the house stays Republican there will some drying on CNN tonight.  I really want to see that.

My guess is that the media has a plan for two scenarios.  If the GOP keeps it all then the mid-terms had nothing to do with Trump.  It was not a referendum on him and he is still "racist, homophobic and divisive" among any other phobia they can think of.

If the Dem's get the House then this was all about 'America's disdain for Trump.  Either way, they will bash him.  If 80% of the country voted Trump, they would bash him.

No matter what happens at the end of the day I, personally am proud to be an American, proud to have the freedom to vote in the election and love each and every of my fellow Americans regardless of any difference we may have.  Unless you go around beating people up who don't agree with you.  I don't love you.

Let me know your thoughts.  What are you seeing after the mid-terms?
