Elephant that inspired the dumbo movie

Pay attention that today I am going to tell you the sad story of Jumbo, the elephant that inspired the film of Dumbo.

Our story begins in Africa, when a group of hunters caught being a baby that would become the largest elephant that ever existed, his name was Jumbo and he arrived in London caged in 1865. He arrived as a celebrity, but as soon as he arrived to the British capital, he began his martyrdom because instead of letting it grow and walk freely, they forced Jumbo to carry large groups of people. Well, imagine more than 100 years ago where there were no animal protection laws that poor Jumbo had to suffer,
during the day it was a happy and docile elephant but at night it became a fura (Today it is known that it was because of the terrible pain that it suffered) and is that they are not designed to support the weight of a couple of people, imagine the damage that made him carry groups of up to 10 people all the time without rest, his knees were shattered and let alone his back. Mathew Scott, his caretaker, gave him whiskey to calm him during the day and to support the hundreds of children who saw him every day, in fact riding Jumbo was one of the best and most exciting attractions for children (and adults) Londoners By the way, the name of "Jumbo" was given by that caretaker and it is supposed that in Swahili it means "Hello", it is also said that Winston Churchill being a child had the opportunity to ride Jumbo. At night and more and more pain hit the walls and fences that protected their space, even once came to crash the fangs to break them, after that when they began to grow wears rubbed against the wall.

Jumbo suffered every day and maybe that is a key to understanding his nocturnal attacks, besides his diet was far from what the poor animal needed. Between the pain of teeth, of back, of knees and without rest a single moment passed his daily life. Finally the day came when he was released from his martyrdom, the American businessman P.T. Barnum bought Jumbo, for the exorbitant figure of 10,000 dollars. The movie of his life shows us a cheerful, kind man, who wanted to give a show, the reality is that he was a liar, racist and swindler who took advantage of the needy to make money. The point is that the London Zoo decided to get rid of the animal, he gave it to Barnum who decided to put him on the ship heading to New York (which he did not want to climb unless his trainer was in the cage). After 2 long weeks of crossing, Jumbo arrived at N.Y. On April 9, 1882, where hundreds of people were waiting for him, Barnum blew up the poor animal until he got the last drop of money and took him on a tour of the country showing him as the largest elephant in the world. Perhaps that is the only truth that Barbum sold in his shows since his bones (exhibited in the museum of New York history) show that he was much bigger than most of the elephants that have existed. But his life was still hell, just to show it and let people ride it without stopping P.T. Barnum received almost half a million dollars in profits, fortunately for Jumbo, death came to him very young (he was 24 years old) and it was in very strange circumstances.

During a tour of Canada, Jumbo was hit by a train, in that accident the machinist and Jumbo died and it is said that it was because the person in charge of changing the tracks was so fascinated watching Jumbo that he forgot to change the needle and that killed the poor elephant. After his death Barnum had him dissected to Jumbo, bought an elephant in London and took her on tour in the USA. exhibiting her as the sad widow. Total that neither dead let the poor animal rest.

In 1941, Walt Disney decided to take the story of Jumbo to the cinema, inspired by the sad elephant "Dumbo" emerged, an elephant that at the end of the film manages to travel comfortably and happily with his mother in a private circus wagon around the country . By the way, like Jumbo, Dumbo had an incident with alcohol, and for some reason the elephant in the movie flies. The film was very well received because Disney, romanticized and idealized life in the circus, was a blockbuster, won an Oscar and the memory of Jumbo was forgotten by Dumbo, a film that has been branded as racist. But the point is that ... The life of Jumbo is sad, but it is sadder to forget that it was a tortured being all his life, it is sad that while you read this, there are thousands of animals suffering the same and nobody does anything, but sleep peacefully, hopefully Dinsey will make you a movie and forgotten business.
