Some Of The Multiple Uses For Emergency Lighting

in #emergency6 years ago

During a disaster having emergency lighting is extremely important and should be on hand no matter what the conditions are. Search and rescue workers rely on this equipment to find stranded hikers and other personnel whom become lost in dense woods or mountainous terrain. People who enjoy these activities should always carry a good led strobe flashlight or light wand in case they become trapped in a ravine or crevasse. People who live and work in high-rise buildings require lights such as these to successfully evacuate should a disaster occur. Unfortunately most people take lights and other safety features for granted and do not notice them until they become stuck in dark places without any light or supplies.

Devices like these are no good if stored in places that are hard to get to or if they do not stay charged on a regular basis. Having multiple flashlights within a home is a moot point if stored in areas such as a garage, attic or basement and cannot be located quickly and decisively. In worst case scenarios the location of the lights are completely unknown.

In an effort to ensure the safety of a home, the owner should make sure all of the family has their own device. Each device should be stored in an easy to access location and also they should be checked regularly to ensure they work properly. Also when leaving kids with a babysitter or nanny, it is a good idea to inform them of the location where they can find the lighting devices including battery powered lanterns and other models.

One item that is very important when designing a safety plan is having back up batteries for when the working ones run out of juice. Without extra power the lights will not work and there will be no reason for having them in the first place. Again checking the lights on a scheduled basis to ensure they are working properly will prevent problems from occurring should a power outage occur. Another idea is to keep flashlights lights and crank lights handy as they do not require conventional batteries and can be recharged with a shake or a crank of the unit.

Whether a family or single person likes traveling in the wilderness having adequate emergency lighting is crucial. Other emergency supplies that are recommended include solar powered blankets, water and a quality emergency radio and light. Having an emergency light and radio will provide light along with a way of receiving updates from news broadcasts. Backup lights are also a great thing to have and come in a variety of miniature flashlights.
