User Martin: ‘Listening to a few popular EOS podcasts today and I wonder if the tide has shifted decisively against base layer ARB in favour of dapp layer. It’s probably a bit early for base layer proponents to concede, and of course base layer stills need to be formally removed, but could be something to think about, how to shift the debate rather than sticking it out to a bitter end.’ User Kevin Rose: ‘I think you’re seeing opinions shift not because base-layer arbitration is an issue for people, but because this particular attempt at is.’ User Thomas Cox: ‘Given how utterly un- and misinformed the majority of these critiques are, I find this mostly an occasion for sorrow. Good critique helps strengthen a system. We’re not seeing good critique of base layer arbitration, for the most part.’ User Doghouse states that the issue is that no one wants ‘base layer only’. dApp layer only is an unworkable morass and he hasn’t seen a single cogent argument in favour of that. ‘Base+Dapp is what everyone wants, whether they realize it or not.’ User Thomas Cox: ‘There has not been nearly enough work done on DApp layer protections.’ User Eva states that that is the reason that most things are currently also filed with ECAF. A lot of cases that ECAF gets should be done with some way or other at DApp layer, or other opt-in solutions. But currently there are not such solutions. She then gives an example.
User Marcin says that the argument that dapp layer doesn’t exist is valid because most of the effort went into battling the unrealistic assumptions of base layer. ‘When we realized it was a futile effort and brick wall, trying to reason with hard core ecaf proponents, we focused on building instead. It’s 50 ready I’d say. Budgets are an issue, we’re on the ropes and this is expensive. So going slower than we’d ideally like to.’
