I'm at the Hackathon in Hong Kong right now! Is anyone else?
What is EOS?
Look, I'm going to let them answer that for you: Taken from the EOS website
EOS.IO is software that introduces a blockchain architecture designed to enable vertical and horizontal scaling of decentralized applications (the “EOS.IO Software”). This is achieved through an operating system-like construct upon which applications can be built. The software provides accounts, authentication, databases, asynchronous communication and the scheduling of applications across multiple CPU cores and/or clusters. The resulting technology is a blockchain architecture that has the potential to scale to millions of transactions per second, eliminates user fees and allows for quick and easy deployment of decentralized applications.
If that's too complicated for you, let me put it simply:
EOS is like Steem. Steem is the blockchain that Steemit runs on. EOS will be the backbone for other platforms/sites to run on just like Steem is to Steemit.

so what happens at hackerthon, are there talks, r u learning stuff, will u be creating the next app? might sign up to the london one
It's not really like a conference or something that you go to unless you are participating in a team. So in this case, there were teams of 5 building an app in 24 hours to pitch to the judges for a chance to win some money ;)
