Lokmai Mango

In front of my parents' house in the village, there is a mango tree. This mango tree was planted by my father around 1995, so he is now around 24 years old. This mango tree almost died in 2006 due to a virus that attacked its branching. The virus causes the mango tree to release rotten sap in its branching. So that some branch joints die themselves and the flowers fall out so they cannot bear fruit again.

Various therapies have been carried out to save this mango tree. Therapy given starts from spraying with pesticides, giving various fertilizers to electrocute with electricity. But the results are not satisfactory. Until finally my father intended to cut down this mango tree, but my mother forbade it. My mother is still sure this tree will be saved. A few months later this mango tree gradually recovered and released thick leaves again, and also flowered and fruited again. And until now this mango tree still stands firmly in front of our house. What is unique about this mango tree is that it is always fruitful without knowing the season. It's just that if it's not in the fruiting season, this tree doesn't bear much fruit. Until now, we who are the second generation of mango tree owners have never commercialized or sold this mango. We will provide it free to the people who want to taste it.

This mango tree is kind of Lokmai or Nam Dok Mai which tastes very sweet, if the mango is picked on a yellowish color tree, then there is soft and transparent flesh at the bottom. This transparent meat tastes as sweet as honey.

And one more advantage of this Lokmai mango, besides its sweet taste, this mango has thick flesh and thin seeds. You can see the seeds in the images below, very thin.
