Footy Talks - New Champion Of Europe!

I expected a really explosive encounter between Liverpool and Tottenham to determine the victor of the UEFA Champions League 2019, I was disappointed, but proud nonetheless. As most of you who follows the biggest match in Europe this season, Liverpool has been crowned the champion for the 6th times in their history after defeating Tottenham 2 – 0 at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Both sides had a torrid time getting into the final, but a miraculous comeback from defeat in the semi-final stage made it possible for them. Liverpool defeated Barcelona, and Tottenham defeated Ajax in a nerve wrecking matches that clearly saps their energy for their poor performance in the final, especially for Liverpool. The 3 weeks non-football action doesn’t help at all, as both teams looks rusty after a long lay-off.

Liverpool was splendid in the early minutes of the match, and they even forced Tottenham to hand them a penalty which was converted by Mohamed Salah to give Liverpool an early lead as early as the 2nd minute. That early goal has surely killed the game, even though Liverpool was pushing for the 2nd goal and controlling the match for most of the 1st half, Tottenham came back strongly to force the game to a tie before the half time whistle is blown, but they couldn’t find that crucial goal.

The 2nd half commenced, and Liverpool looks like intent to preserve their lead. It was a terrible Liverpool side in the 2nd half, there is no urgency in attack, and most passes in the final third went awry, and easily intercepted by the Tottenham defense. Tottenham however, grew in the 2nd half, and they kept pushing for goals. Their attack troubles Liverpool’s defense a lot, only to be denied by the ”Man Of The Match”, Allison Becker. The goalie single handedly protects Liverpool from defeat with his heroic saves. The Liverpool defense was so resolute too, not giving many chances for the Tottenham’s danger men to shoot at goal.

At the 88th minutes, Divock Origi (who was playing way below par) has finally scored the decisive goal that eventually won Liverpool the match and the Crown as the Champion of Europe. When the Final Whistle is blown, there were tears of joy and grief that fell on that stadium ground. Joy to the Liverpool players, coaches, and staffs, and grief to Tottenham. Liverpool has finally demised their heartbreak for losing the final last year to Real Madrid, and losing the English Premier League to Manchester City.

History is made, and the Liverpool sides who won this Championship Trophy is now considered as Legends just like their predecessors who has won it previously. Fireworks are lighting up the skies, and there are celebrations and parades in the streets of Madrid and Liverpool City. I am not sure how long this celebration will go on, but this historic win will never be erased from the minds of these Liverpool Fans and supporters.
