The Floating Water Mill

This is something you don't see every day. To be honest, it's the first one for me that I see live. It's a restored piece of the part, a piece of Romania's history, displayed at the Astra National Museum in Sibiu, Romania.

It's made of wood mostly, except of the stones that we'll see soon.

Once these floating water mills, using the free energy provided by the river, were used for grinding wheat, rye, and barley from the area.

This is the inside of the mill. You can see the bog wooden funnel where the grain was poured, below the funnel there is a sieve which served in case the bags contained something unwanted. That remained in the sieve. Below there are the millstones.

The big wheel with the sculls rotated by the power of the water.
