Casa Loma (casaloma.org): the former abode (castle) of Canadian Financier Sir Henry Pellat. The castle features more than twenty five – lavish rooms and an eight hundred- foot tunnel leading to the Hunting Lodge and stables; however the Great room, Billiard room and most of the third floor of Loma were never completed. Unfortunately Pellat was forced to leave Casa Loma in 1923 due to his financial downturn. For a brief period Casa Loma functioned as a hotel and then as a night club in the late 1920’s. In 1933, the City of Toronto took possession of the property due to back taxes. Then, in 1937, the City of Toronto in conjunction with The Kiwanis Club of West Toronto opened the castle to the public (also several movies have been filmed at Loma: X-MEN, Strange Brew, The Tuxedo, The Pacifier and The Skulls).
