When the majority of Western leaders backed a violent attack launched by the United States, Britain and France to Syria on Friday night (13/4/2018), different reactions were shown by leaders of Arab countries.

The US along with its allies have fired more than 100 missiles into three Syrian military facilities believed to be linked to chemical weapons attacks in Douma city in East Ghouta a week earlier.

President Donald Trump called the attack launched against the regime of Bashar al-Assad has run smoothly and on all the sites that were targeted.

Countries that support the US attack on Syria include Israel, Canada, Turkey and NATO.

Then what are the views of other Arab countries for the US military and its allies? The following comments from a number of Arab countries, quoted from The New Arab:

Qatar

Qatar became the first Arab Gulf country to react to US air strikes and its allies to Syria.

The official statement delivered by Qatar Foreign Ministry on Saturday (14/4/2018) shows its support for attacks aimed at stopping Assad's regime forces using chemical weapons that endanger civilians.

"Qatar expressed its support to the United States, Britain and France over military operations targeting specific targets of the Syrian regime used to launch attacks against civilians," the statement said.

"The use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime indiscriminately against civilians by ignoring the humanitarian and legal consequences requires immediate action by the international community to protect the people and disarm internationally prohibited weapons," the statement added.

Oman

The Oman government also expressed its support for military action against Syrian military installations.

"Oman supports the underlying reasons for the US, British and French decision to take military action against Syrian military installations," Qatar Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Saturday (14/4/2018).

Egypt

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the US military strikes and its allies considered to have injured the safety of the Syrian people and threatened the understanding that has been reached about the de-escalation zone.

Algeria

The Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, expressly regrets the attacks carried out as the international community is awaiting the results of the investigating team regarding the use of chemical weapons in the city of Douma.

"The attacks will create a negative atmosphere for the Syrian crisis settlement through political channels," he said.

Iraq

Critics of the US-led invasion also warned that a military offensive could trigger a return to the insurgency movement in the Middle East region.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said the consequences of a military offensive would threaten the region's security and stability.

"The attacks by the United States, Britain and France are very dangerous developments, which will provide an opportunity for the spread of terrorism that has been destroyed in Iraq and pushed from Syria."
