Rawon, An Indonesian Traditional Food

Rawon is well known in English language as Black Soup. This is part of Indonesian traditional food, that we usually can find at most of city at East Java province in Indonesia and partly at east region in Central Java province (Surakarta)

The main ingredients this food is consisted beef, shalot (bawang merah), garlic (bawang putih), lemon grass (serai), chilli (cabai), Thai ginger (lengkuas), coriander (ketumbar), candle nut (kemiri), tumeric (kunyit), salt (garam), vegetable oil (minyak nabati) and the special one is pagium edule (kluwek)⁽¹⁾. Kluwek is the reason why this kind of food called Black Soup, because this ingredient make the soup look black. We can serve it with compilimentary such as seedling (kecambah), chilli sauce (sambal) and tempe.

Rawon, now is well known as traditional food for common, because we can find it from side walk of main street, selling by street vendors to high class restaurant. The price is varies around from Rp. 12.000,-($0.9) to Rp. 50.000 ($3). So if try it taste of this kind of food if you visit East Java, Indonesia.(hpx)
