Some days the atmosphere is just right for traveling on the express boat along the Chao Phraya River. The sound of the boat against the water is music to my ears while the warm breezes and occasional spraying of water make my day.

I would just observe everything around me such as passengers, houses and new skyscrapers rising along the river. How life along this old river has changed during the past one hundred years. I could see many emotional expressions on people’ s faces on the boat; young couples and tourists are having a good time absorbing new experiences. Some young students are deep in conversation about their exams. Some older ladies with heavy shopping bags are anxious about their costs of living.

This is a good place for me to get in touch with a bigger picture of reality. Everyone is somehow living with the feeling of insecurity about uncertainty in life. I wonder about those big building projects along the river, whether they would survive during an unexpected economic upheaval. How about those hundreds of people working as employees in shopping malls and hotels.

I learn to recognise all these perceptions and thoughts with the awareness of living in the present. What if the boat capsize and I had to swim in the river trying to survive!? I have to remind myself very often to let go of arising anxiety and fear so that my mind is more attentive to what is happening now. Living a spiritual life going beyond the material world and gratification is never easy, as I have very keen sensitivity plus some psychic ability.

I couldn’t help wondering how poor people in rundown houses by the river feel about those rich classes of people living in luxurious high rise buildings. With all the income gaps and social injustices along the way, the earth is still very beautiful and precious. I just hope that people would find out that sharing their good fortune would bring more happiness all around to the givers and receivers. Compassion and generosity will help healing all these pains and sufferings while spiritually enriching those rich people who never know the suffering of lacking gratifications.

บางวันอากาศเหมาะสำหรับการไปนั่งเรือด่วนเล่น เรือจะล่องไปตามแม่นํ้าเจ้าพระยา เราจะได้เห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นสองริมฝั่งภายในเวลาไม่ถึงร้อยปี ความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เห็นนั้นน่าใจหายมาก แต่ด่อนจะมีแต่ต้นไม้เขียวขจีและป่ารก ตอนนี้มีตึกระฟ้าและคอนโดเต็มไปหมด นึกกลัวว่าแผ่นดินจะทรุดเพราะรับนํ้าหนักไม่ไหวสักวันหนึ่ง เรานั่งเรือเพื่อดูความเป็นอยู่และชีวิตของคนที่อาศัยแม่นํ้ามาช้านาน ไปดูว่าบ้านเรือนของคนธรรมดายังมีอยู่หรือไม่ และทำให้เราได้สัมผัสชีวิตคนหลายๆสถานะ นักท่องเที่ยวก็มีสีหน้าตื่นเต้นและมีความสุข เด็กนักเรียนก็กังวลเรื่องการเตรียมตัวสอบ หนุ่มสาวก็คุยเรื่องการสร้างชีวิตครอบครัว คนที่ดูจนหน่อยหอบถุงหลายใบมีความกังวลเรื่องการทำมาหากิน เรานั่งสังเกตและรับรู้ว่าทุกชีวิตต้องมีปัญหาแตกต่างกันไปในการมีชีวิตบนโลกใบนี้ ทำให้เราคิดถึงคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้าและ อยากหาเวลานั่งสมาธิให้ก้าวหน้ามากขึ้น

เราอดคิดไม่ได้ว่าคนทั่เขาอยู่ในบ้านไม้เก่าๆที่ผุพัง คิดอย่างไรที่เห็นตึกระฟ้า และคอนโดหรูๆสำหรับคนรวยตามแม่น้ำ เราเห็นช่องว่างระหว่างคนรวยและคนจนชัดมากที่นี่ แต่ทุกชีวิตก็กลัวความไม่แน่นอนของอนาคต อะไรที่ไม่คาดคิดย่อมเกิดขึ้นได้ คนที่เป็นเจ้าของตึกและโครงการใหญ่ๆริมแม่น้ำนั้น เขาจะรับได้หรือไม่ ถ้าปัญหาเศรษฐกิจทั่วโลกส่งผลกระทบอย่างรุนแรง แม้คนรวยจะไม่เคยอดข้าวไม่เคยขาดสิ่งของหรูๆ แต่ก็มีทุกข์และปัญหาแตกต่างกันไป ถ้าห้างใหญ่ๆขาดทุน คนจนที่เป็นพนักงานระดับล่างก็คงต้องเดือดร้อน คิดแล้วก็ยิ่งเห็นว่าชีวิตนี้อนิจจัง อยากไปทำสมาธิให้เจริญสติปัญญาต่อไปในอนาคต
