Monster's "blood-mountain" - additional information
What is Monster's "blood-mountain" used for nowadays?
In yesterday's post Are you getting scared when hearing "monster" and "blood-mountain"? I told you about the history of this little hill in the middle of the dunes.
Nowadays it is mainly used for recreation.
You can walk up the hill and have a break during your walk.

Especially during the spring bird-watchers come up there with their huge tele zoom cameras. They would like to claim this place as theirs but that's impossible of course.
As always there are also idiots coming to this place trying to destroy it. You can find fresh ashes there almost every time.

The hill is in the middle of the dunes near the coast where it's windy most of the time. It did not rain for weeks. If only one little spark of fire would find its way to the surrounding totally dry grass and bushes in the dunes we could have kilometers of dunes burning.
Flora and fauna are in danger- look what could be lost

Thousands of rabbits are living in the area
Also mountain goats can be found
I also saw some foxes but did not get the chance to catch them on camera, yet.
Although the hill is only 11 meters high you have a fantastic view over the landscape
Looking to the south you can see the "Maasvlakte Rotterdam" which is where Rotterdam harbor meets the Northsea.
Looking to the north you'll see parts of The Hague. The huge buildings in the center but also Scheveningen and Kijkduin.
The tower in the foreground is an old water tower which is worth a post of its own.
As you can see they are busy to build and expand the region around Kijkduin.
So you see, if you ever visit Monster, be sure to take a walk through the dunes. But only on the paved paths! Do not enter the dunes. They are a protected area.

Een uitzondering: als die samen met zijn beste vriendin Lea onderweg is. Dan kijken die twee elkaar even aan en gaan als een bliksem door de duinen. Meestal komen ze na enkele minuten - vaak met kleine wondjes - helemaal uitgeput terug.
