Honey bee at work...

You can see its face is covered in pollen. I found this specimen just off the boardwalk in the Snag Boat Bend unit of the William L. Finley Wildlife Refuge. The mustard plant is an early Spring bloomer and offers ample opportunity for the bee to do what it does best.

When we read about the great threat that looms over them, we should give thanks every time we see the little miracle of a flying bee ... ;-)

For sure. And it turns out that the Queen bee is the source of the honey's immune building qualities. Letting her live her life out in the hive is essential. She doesn't produce the good stuff until several years into her life. Swapping out the Queen bee every year is a practice that has been very determinetal.
