The main difference between the blood of insects and human blood that is vertebrates is the red blood cells. Humans and other vertebrate animals have blood that contains red blood cells while insects and other invertebrates have hemolymph, a heterogeneous fluid that moistens all the internal tissues of their bodies. Hemolymph is circulating in the body of the insect is derived from the heart that continues to pump. Hemolymph is mostly water containing ions, carbohydrates, lipids, glycerol, amino acids, hormones, pigments and even some cells. Pigments in this hemolymph that give color to the insect so it looks yellow or green.

Unlike the closed circulatory system in vertebrates, insects have an open circulatory system that does not require arteries and veins. Thus, Hemolymph flows freely throughout their bodies, lubricates the entire body tissues and transports nutrients and removes impurities. The respiratory system also becomes a differentiator, if the oxygen vertebrates are brought in by the blood throughout the body while the insects have a way of breathing through a tracheal tube that sends air throughout the body in another way.
