Secure Digital (SD) association has released a new memory format that makes secure digital memory (SD) cards have data transfer speed equivalent to solid state drive (SSD).

The format in question has been released under the name of SD Express for technology that refers to high speed data transfer and Ultra Capacity (UC) which refers to an increase in memory card capacity.

SD Express which has a maximum transfer speed of 985 megabytes per second or 1.58 times faster than the existing standard UHS-III memory card.

The standard speed of UHS-III memory card currently reaches 624 megabytes per second and is achieved by combining UHS-I, UHS-II and High Speed standards.

"SD Express offers new memory cards at a new level with faster protocols and converts memory cards into SSDs," said President SDA, Hiroyuki Sakamoto as quoted by KompasTekno from Pixel Maps.

Meanwhile, the Ultra Capacity (UC) standard, also announced simultaneously, provides memory card capacity up to 128 TB or 64 times that of the previous Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) standard.

Super large capacity and high transfer speed will benefit the creative workers, including photographers and videographers, who work using high-resolution data that is very large.

For example in terms of video game 4K and 8K, while using burst mode on the camera, and when using a 360 degree camera.

But not yet known when the memory card that carries this new standard released to the market.

Previously, SansDisk also had announced SDXC memory card with a capacity of 1 TB in 2016 ago. But until now the memory card has not appeared so the largest capacity in the market is 512 GB.
