RUSSIAN ANCIENT COOKIES - BARANKI

Baranki, boobliki, sushki, obvarenki - and dozens of other names were given to these unique cookies;)

If you look at many Russian pictures or read Russian fairytales or watch Russian old movies, you'll find BARANKI by all means!

SAMOVAR (ancient Russian kind of modern teapot) and BARANKI are classics of ancient Russian culture.

It's a very old recipe, and we can call it a real legacy of past.

So what is it?

Actually, there is nothing more simple!
It's just cookies-circles

And I was always sure that they are made like all other cookies - make dough, form cookies and bake them.

And I failed when I tried to make them in such a way!;)

My son likes them very much, but only if they are not very soft and not very hard. Easy to chew but not easy to bite;)

My first BARANKI were my epic fail;)
They were VERY hard!

Then I started to find the answer for my fail in the web....and....YES!

I've found BARANKI's secret!

The thing is our ancestors didn't bake them at once, at first they put them into boiling water for 1-2 min! and only then they were baked!

**I tried to follow this ancient recipe and YES! **

I did it!

They were great!
Rather soft and rather hard - just perfect!

Like real ancient BARANKI;)

So we need:

• whole-grain flour
• some water
• salt (or sugar)

Make dough and form such circles.
Then put them into loiking water for 1 min!

Then you can add some seeds, now baranki are wer after the water, and seeds will be glad to decorate them:)

And them bake them into the oven for 10-15 min.
