Daily Digital 'Colourful Birds.'

Today's digital treats include a variety of birds which have adapted well to my application of special effects. The theme is a mixture of Tropicana and Fantasy and I hope you will enjoy viewing them.

I like to include a little information about the birds to get you more familiar with the wonderful variety of native Australian birds.

MAGPIE:

Australian Magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen) are native to Australia and New Guinea and are classified as medium sized black and white passerine birds. They are closely related to black butcher birds but not to the European magpies.

They measure 37-43 cms in length and are characterized by their distinctive black and white feathers and their solid wedge-shaped bills which are bluish white and black in colour.
Males and females are similar in appearance, but the males have pure white feathers of the back of their heads whereas the female has a blend of white and grey feathers on the back of the head. Australian Magpies spend much of their time walking on the ground as opposed to waddling or hopping as other birds do.

NOISY MINER:

The Noisy Miner bird (Melanocephala) is part of the Honey eater family. They are commonly found in eastern and south- east Australia but popularize many other parts of Australia too. They are characterized by their grey/black feathers, yellow beak and a large yellow patch around their eyes. Their tails have white tips. They are given their name for a reason……..a very noisy reason and the variations of sound range from singing, calling, scolding and alarming others when danger is present.

They love eating nectar from plants, especially native grevilleas and this preference has reported to cause the grevillea plants to become very prolific. Another favourite for the Noisy Miners is the Eucalyptus trees.

KOOKABURRA:

The two types of Australian Kookaburra are the Laughing Kookaburra and the Blue Winged Kookaburra. The Laughing Kookaburra is easy to identify in appearance and in sound. They are also characterized by their white bellies and brown flecked wings.

Whereas the Blue Winged Kookaburra’s laugh is coarser than the Laughing Kookaburra’s which ends quite abruptly. The Blue Winged Kookaburra’s appearance differs from the Laughing Kookaburra by the brown stripe along their eyes which look like masks and their tails and wings are adorned with attractive blue feathers.

CORELLA:

Corellas are a subgenus of the white cockatoos and three of the six species are only found in Australia. The Little Corella is the most widely distributed of the three corella species found in Australia. The Western Corella is confined the extreme south-west of Western Australia, and the Long-billed Corella is found in the south-east.

The little Corellas often like to play and get up to a manner of amusing antics. Such as perching on the blades of windmills and spinning around and around, falling off and then going back for more. It is not unusual to see these birds hanging upside down, holding on with their beaks.......just for fun.

AFRICAN GREY PARROT:

Beautiful African Grey Parrots are members of the Psittacidae family. They are highly intelligent and make wonderful, lifelong companions. There are two types of African Grey Parrots. The Congo African Grey and the Timneh African Grey. They are loving, playful and are known as the "Einsteins" of the parrot world due to their amazing ability to talk.

You are welcome @trudeehunter! 💖

We have a yard full of magpies. They are noisy, bossy, and somewhat destructive. I know of someone who said they can talk too.

Many thanks for your welcome visit @willowwisp We have one or two magpies visit is us most days as they perch on our balcony and tell us in very melodic ways that it is time to wake up and enjoy our day. They can learn to talk apparently and I consider them to be very intelligent birds.
