Part XIV

After leaving the castle, Matthew went back home. At the back of his house, several workers are putting down laege amount of blacksmith materials.

"You can make a fortune if you sold all of this," Boris joked.

"It would be great if I could do that. Unfortunately, I needed them for something," Matthew replied.

"You're building something?" Asked Aria curiosly.

"It's for the incoming war right?" Amy asked knowingly.

"Yeah..."nods Matthew.

Hearing his answer, Amy wasn't too surprise but Aria and Boris were curios. During the attack from the assassin and the nobles, Matthew's strange tools greatly aid in their escape and consenquent victory.

Knowing that Matthew is planning to build something to fight the war against the black dragon, the two is rather expectant—waiting for the surprise that this blacksmith apprentice would give them.

Soon, all the promised materials are delivered and Matthew is now just waiting for the arrival of the craftsman, king promised.

Meanwhile, outside the city walls, the peasants and farmers are fleeing to the city, while soldiers are rushing to villages and farmlands. The reason for this is because several lesser dragons are attacking the villages and burning the farms surrounding the city!

After hearing of the attack, the king ordered all of the villagers to evacuate to the city while the citizens and merchants were not allowed to leave. This led to some people grumpling in discontent, but after seeing the lesser dragons, behaved themselves.

The news also reached Matthew's ears but since he cannot do much to help, decided to focus on the work at hand. Cureently, he is drafting the blueprint for his new tool, hence couldn't leave even if he wanted to.

The lesser dragons caused mayhem and havok on the villages and farms are being burned, leaving the poor villagers in despair. But the gods did nkt abandon them as several days later, several groups of lesser dragon's arrives and fought the other lesser dragons, to the surprised of the villagers and the soldiers themselves.

"They have finally arrived!" The king said with relief.

"Your majesty, these lesser dragons are our allies?" Asked a general.

"Correct! They are the lesser dragons sent by lord silver dragon to help us in the upcoming battle!" Declared the king.

"Really!" Everyone in the room exclaimed in shock.

"This is due to the lad, Matthew's effort," the king said in good mood.

The nobles and lords are greatly surprised of after hearing what the king said. They knew of Matthew, as the person who helped cure the silver dragon, and the one who passed the news of the black dragon's imminent attack. They never thought that aside from this, he was also responsible for rallying the lesser dragons to their side.

It seemed that this unassuming blacksmith apprentice had contributed greatly in the kingdom's defense without their knowledge—making them feel rather awkward, considering that as nobles, it should have been their duty.

Seeing the awkward expression on the nobles faces, the king new that his plan of making the nobles feel ashame of their inadequancy had succeed. This action will ensure that these nobles will double their effort in fighting the black dragon.

A few days had passed since the attack if the lesser dragons. Thomas, along with the craftsman sent by the king are assembling a strange looking machinery. Looking at the craftsman, one can see a trace of fanaticism on their faces. After Matthew showed them the blueprint and explaining the function of the machine, they knew that this machine is definite game changer in the upcomkng war. Hence, they are giving it them all.

There's not much time left, and everyone's doing their part to prepare for the upcoming battle. The drums of war are beating and the fate of the kingdom of Valencia rest at the result of this battle.
