Electronic development especially in the telecommunications world is very fast. A cellphone whose initial function was as a communication tool has now changed. Other functions are added and increasingly sophisticated. Until finally we get confused actually the thing that we hold is a communication device or is it a camera that can be used to communicate?

On average every 6 months we watch mobile ads with new functions or improvements from previous functions. Bombarded ads from all directions, as if we must have them. Even though the cellphone that we hold today is only bought less than 1 year ago. Remember, that all improvements or additions to new functions of these objects have a price.

Some people are not tempted to replace their cellphone. Because they know cellphones are one of the fastest depreciating objects. Even the price of a cellphone can be directly plunged on the same day, even though it is only used in just a matter of hours. Especially in a matter of months or years. For example, how much is the price of a Blackberry cellphone in its heyday? But at present Pegadaian is not willing to accept BlackBerry as a guarantee.

You certainly do not argue with the facts described above. But why do people who already know the above still keep changing their cellphones even sometimes consciously draining their savings?

Sort:

I used to spend all my money because I spent all my time getting more money. When the focus is money to get material possessions, the tendency is to spend on things you think will bring you joy. I would get a rush when things arrived in the mail, then just as quickly as the rush came, it went away. These days I understand happiness comes from within, not from external sources, and certainly not material possessions. I will be holding onto my current phone for as long as it will be functional.
