Code update Casper in Ethereum was published for General study

in #eth6 years ago

The Casper update code, which is intended to change the mechanism of consensus in the Ethereum network, was published for study by external auditors and developers, CoinDesk writes.

Danny Ryan, the developer of Casper FFG, posted version 0.1.0 or "first release" of the code on GitHub on Tuesday, noting: "v0.1.0 marks the beginning of a clearer naming of the releases, which will help the clients and external auditors to monitor the contract and modifications".

Ryan also commented on the release on Reddit: "Now the contract can use not only the research team: auditors, developers, clients etc. We want to start more clearly identify the versions and the change logs to help in the organization process."

Publishing code is important because client developers can now start writing and testing SOFTWARE in their own languages.

Ethereum Creator Vitalik Buterin mentioned the upcoming update at the Toronto conference last week, calling it"hopefully one of the most joyful moments in Ethereum in a relatively short period of time."

After integration, Casper FFG will change Ethereum in such a way that updating its blockchain will require the use of the proof-of-work mechanism, that is, mining, similar to how it works in the bitcoin blockchain, and proof-of-stake, which attracts validators fixing a certain number of coins to get this role.

At the initial stage, the main burden will fall on the PoW miners, while PoS-validators will periodically create checkpoints. The cost of the validator node will be 1,500 ETH or about $1.1 million at the current rate.

Subsequently, Ethereum developers plan to completely abandon PoW mining, but the specific time frame for this process has not yet been set.

In the nearest future Casper will be audited and its integration in the main network will be possible only after the developers of the main clients finish their software adaptation to the new mechanism. Since Casper will not be compatible with previous versions of Ethereum SOFTWARE, the upgrade will be done by hard fork.

"When the elements of the mosaic will start to gather in the whole picture, I will inform you that it is time to appoint the number of the block for the fork," Ryan said at a meeting of developers.
