Powh3D: how a transparent hourglass model powers a new generation of decentralised applications

in #ethereum5 years ago (edited)

This is the story of P3D, and how it powered an entire economy around it.

What is powh3d anyways?

Proof of weak hands is an hourglass scheme, which is decentralised and fully transparent. The premises are downright simple: every time you buy in or sell your coins, 10% tax is charged on your order. The coins are created when you buy in and destroyed when you sell. Instead of the decentralised exchange taking the fees, all fees are equally distributed according to the amount of powh3d they have in their wallet. The price increaces as coins are bought, and decreaces when coins are sold. For more details on how powh3d works, see here.

Why is P3D exciting?

It’s just another ponzi scheme that apparently is transparent, but still loses you money, isn’t it? Only early adapters can profit from this, right?

Wrong. P3d has given birth to a handful of other dapps: both powering and being powered by the network.

Here are some of the more significant dapps powered by this network:

1. FOMO3D

This is the first dapp built around the p3d network. In a nutshell, it is a version of p3d where there is a countdown timer that ticks to zero. When the timer hits zero, the last person to buy a full key( the fomo3d “token”) wins the jackpot. Also, instead of charging 10% taxes, there is much more tax charged and distributed to the holders of the keys.

But there’s a catch. Everytime someone buys a full key, the timer is extended by 30 seconds: enough for 2.5 blocks worth of time (the difficulty of mining eth is set to be at 12 seconds per block on average) to pass. This creates a greed-feeds-green situation: someone buys a key, the pot gets larger, and when the timer runs low, someone else buys it.

In fact, during round 1 of this game, the jackpot reached a total of oer 10000 ethers, and someone apparently contaminated the entire ethereum network in hopes for the jackpot. And win it they did.

(Note that the jackpot seems larger than it is since most of the ethers are distribted among the others.)

Even better, when the round of fomo3d ends, 10% of the entire pot is distributed among the p3d holders. As fomo3d is still a very active dapp, it constantly powers the p3d network, keeping it alive even in stagnation, and also adds to the fomo to buy in p3d.

As a conclusion, FOMO3D is the main support for the entire p3d economy when the market is stagnated, and is the dapp that makes people fomo in to not only itself, but powh3d too.

2. Raffle3d

Although not being as large scale as FOMO3D, Raffle3d highly depends on the p3d network. In a nutshell, raffle3d is a lottery but powered by the p3d network.

Instead of going to the jackpot, the money gained from the ticket sales, are used to buy p3d. This means that the pot is entirely based on the volume of the p3d network. Also, the creators have made the raffle tickets last forever: what this means is that the dividends will keep filling the pot, and eventually, when the ticket gets drawn, a winner is chosen and the other tickets still stay in the lottery. Each ticket costs 0.01 eth, and the winner earns 0.1 eth. Although the probability is extremely low for a person to win isntantly in a single round, the constant dividends to the pot and the fact that tickets last forever until they are drawn means that eventually you WILL get your ticket drawn, as long as the network is alive.

3. Slaughter3d

This game is something like a multiplayer coin flip, but with a refund system, partially powered by p3d.

Each person firstly pays 0.1 ethers to the contract. When there are 2 players, others can execute the contract by sending a 0 ether transaction. 0.185 eths are given to the winner, detirmined by the block hash, and the other eths are used to both buy p3d and enter into the so-called “refund queue”, which is used to refund the players that have lost the duel. 20 games would fully refund a player, while the dividends give an extra to the people getting refunded by. This creates a win-win situation for all players of the game, just that one has a larger advantage and the other has to deal with time.

And now, with over 7 dapps and counting, the p3d network has provided both a large userbase and a sustainable source of funds to these dapps.

But that’s not all.

As P3D grows in popularity, more p3dapps are being made and in development. And what’s better? You can contribute a dapp to the community, both strengthened and being supported by the p3d community! (And even reap some bux on the way) With a more secure network of dapps, the network will become more sevure, the coin will have more value, and everyone wins!

And finally, thanks for reading this article! Be sure to upvote, resteem and also buy a fomo3d key!

if fomo3d round 9 lasts until 2019, we will host a large giveaway!
