Essentia will take away some Power from Facebook/Google

Ever noticed when you try to sign up to a website or application you can occasionally use your Facebook or Google account to sign up. Not all websites have this feature but I love having the convenience when a few websites or applications do offer this feature. But I’m starting to feel that this convenience is coming at a bit of a cost because now Facebook and Google get more access into my personal life. These big companies are known abusers of people’s personal data and them knowing what tiny application or random website I am using isn’t really a good idea. They only get more access to even the smallest things I do.

I admit I love the convenience of using my Facebook or Google account to sign up and most small websites or applications know that. Some of them end up offering the service but this comes at a cost. Those websites and applications have a large portion of their accounts linked to Facebook and Google; this puts the two big tech giants in a position of power. As for people like me who have used that convenient log-in, FB and Google are peering deeper into my personal life.

In my previous article, I wrote about Essentia and I think Essentia can make sure that tech giants don’t eventually end up having a controlling factor in every website’s or application’s sign ups. It can also make sure that those companies keep their grubby hands off the details of what I do in my life.

A Single Log-in

Essentia offers its users a seed which secures their personal information; some of this information involves the data needed to sign up to websites and applications. Essentia’s platform needs to store and verify the information just once and it can then allow us to temporarily allow third parties to access that information when we want.

This allows the seed to have an eLogin power that can be used for websites or applications. The convenience of using Facebook or Google accounts can now be matched with the seed’s eLogin provided by Essentia. The convenience Facebook and Google sign-ups offer are an important aspect in the user experience developers want to offer. Now that user experience can be matched by Essentia.

The big picture here is that websites and applications won’t need to hand over any power to two large companies in order to build a good user experience and at the same time people will be able to limit the amount of personal information FB and Google have access to.
