Eurovision Winner... What is happening???

in #eurovision6 years ago (edited)

Hello, my fellow Steemians!!

Last week we had the Eurovision festival. It’s a festival where European countries choose a song to perform in competition against the other nations. Usually, I don’t even know what happens there, but this year something got my attention.

The winner was an Israeli singer (I didn’t even know Israel was part of the contest) and she was the “Eurovision metro representative” and of course… it won.

Personally, I think the music is just not that good… a big part of it consists of making weird chicken noises… I wish I was kiding…

One funny detail is that the singer used an East Asian type dressed… and spent much of her performance making really strange eye movements, like getting them to slit eyes… kinda funny. (More on that in a second)

In an interview, we can listen to the singer saying interesting things such as “I’m a pop star and people took longer to accept that” I’ll just quickly point out the irony of people not knowing you’re a star…

In that same interview, she also says that her song is about empowering woman and people who had felt excluded. But here are the news … the song is only about calling man scared chickens. I wish I was kidding…

So we have a song that is just saying that men are stupid, literally and we all accept when she says it’s about empowerment… just because it’s attached to a vocal talisman….

So we are living in a period where the usage os a vocal talisman (such as “I decided to be happy and this song is about empowering”) gets a big part of the masses intellectually bypassed into accepting that an extremely offensive song with not a positive or constructive sentence to it, is a song about empowering or breaking stereotypes or social progress. (three other talismans) I would like to know what part of insulting half of the world’s population on a major event, can be considered social progress?… but may that’s just me.

So, in short, we have these talismans that people seem to repeat and all of a sudden bum… logic and facts and objectivity and fairness and … doesn’t apply to them, just because there repeating some words they heard … I believe this contest was a perfect example of this situation we are leaving that’s getting to a scary place…

Not only talismans but also mantras since they’re repeated and repeated on an eyeless loop by all means of communication.

In conclusion … we have the ironic thing of all the ironies…

Get this, some people were actually offended by the performance… Normal I would think since the song is extremely offensive. However, the people offended were not mentioning the song nor its content… but rather… the dress she was wearing. So this offensive music with some chicken noises wins a big competition seen by millions of people and the issue is that she was wearing a Chinese dress and she is not Chinese.. so that’s what is offensive… Wish I was kidding.

In the middle of all of this multiculturalism is something to avoid according to some “be yourself type of people” But that’s another story for another day.

That’s it for today… I can imagine this post will be offensive to some… however, that was not my intention nor I believe it’s offensive at all. I’m just reporting a situation with some data.

The Eurovision audience has gone crazy; must be. Seems to be about entertainment only, entertainment of the lowest kind, no content, no message. Wondering why this event still exists.

Agree. It's true I always forget it's still around... (until this year hhheh)

Thank you for your comment.
