How to Ignore These 3 Common Exercise Excuses

in #exercises5 years ago

There comes a time in your life when you have to face the truth about something. Whether it's your performance at work, relationship with family, or your own health, taking stock of your current situation is critical. In today's post, I'll delve into some of the reasons we make exercise excuses and some tips for getting out of your exercise rut. Ready, set, go!

Excuse #1: You're too tired. I'm with you on this one. Fatigue is one of the primary reasons you don't exercise. It's not entirely your fault, though. If you're sleep-deprived in general (defined as sleeping less than 6 hours) sleep trumps exercise every time. But what's a busy mom to do when the desire to move is there but the energy isn't? The first step is to change your perspective about fatigue and exercise. The more you move, the more likely you are to have restful, restorative, beneficial sleep. Studies show that just 15 minutes of exercise a day can provide some health benefits. Although it doesn't sound like much to begin with, an hour and a half of exercise a week is a good start. Another important tip is to reevaluate your evening routine. If you're attached to you phone at night, give it a rest. It takes some adjusting to put your phone down for the evening (trust me, I know!). I encourage you to give it a try and see the difference it makes.

Excuse #2: You're Not Seeing Results. This is a tough one especially if you're consistent. As women age, the things that worked like a charm may not produce the same results. In other words if 30 minutes of cardio did the trick in your 20s, you'll need to add an incline and up the intensity to whittle your middle. Taking stock of your nutrition is another area to watch. Without getting too obsessive, you will have to change your eating. Cheat days are gone. Instead, try a cheat experience like sharing a dessert with a friend.

Excuse #3: You're Just Too Busy. Ah, yes, the packed schedule excuse. On any given day, it’s not uncommon for you to be taking a kid to practice, picking one up, or going to the grocery store in-between. Fitting in exercise is something you have to fight for! As life schedules get more hectic the better you plan, the more consistent your workouts will be. If you don't have one hour, it's okay, 15 minutes is a great start. Don't beat yourself up for what you can't do, instead take each day at time. No guilt here! You'll be amazed at what you can do every day.

You hear the term no more excuses often. The reality is that things happen in life that can keep us from taking care of ourselves. Some excuses might be legitimate and beyond your control. However, if you find yourself in some of the categories above, see what you can do to improve your health everyday.
