The Power Of Family ~
Mother, wife, daughter, sister and Father, husband, son, brother make up a family. All connected and belonging. Young and old sharing ideas, wisdom, knowledge and opinions. Endless talking and listening takes place around the table in the kitchen. Lots is learned, the old family stories, recipes and secrets are passed on. Photos are taken and put into albums, fun memories in the pages. Every person is valued and is as important as the other, all giving and receiving love, happiness, peace, joy and forgiveness. Diversity and sameness is the intrinsic blend creating both the challenges and the harmony.
Different levels of family exist. First there is the little family unit with mother, father and children, all living, working and playing together. This is where the job of the mum and dad to love, protect, care, teach their children about right and wrong, good and bad, positive and negative consequences to choices, beliefs and values. The intent of the family is to assist children to grow into functional resilient and sensible adults. This is the best kind of family, the one that teaches difference is good and acceptance is the better option.
Sadly, there are dysfunctional families, they have a lot to answer for. The power is misused. Children suffer.
The second level of family is where the grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins spend quality time together sharing dinners, celebrations, weddings and even funerals. it being there for each other and the sitting around the table, the chatting, laughing and sharing is a powerful thing. The optimal scenario is that such a gathering occurs regularly. it takes determination and coordination for those family members that live a distance away.
Family is the cornerstone of our lives. It is the structure that provides emotional and psychological nurturing to its members. It is always hoped that families do their best for each other and specially for children. Families are not perfect, there is no such thing. There can only be ongoing attempts with acceptance of members, warts and all. Family is where the action is; easy and hard. Disagreement, anger and frustration occur, one member can thoughtlessly upset others.
A good attitude is to let it go, nothing is so bad that one can't keep getting on with the family. Life is too short, family is important.
