How African mothers bathe new born babies.

in #family6 years ago

Hello mothers! How are you all fairing today? I know you're all doing very great.

Today, I'll be talking about a beautiful African tradition where the parents of a new mother or father comes to help with catering to the new born baby for a period of time.

This is every grandmother's desire.

There are usually some methods our mothers shared with us based on how they raised us but you'll agree with me that there are also modern methods in our time.

At the hospital, doctors make sure that they share with the nursing mothers who are just getting to know how the babies world works on some traditions that they don't have to continue with.

Let's compare then and now methods.

Then: Using cloth on hot lantern to press the area of circumcision.

Now: Apply Penicillin and leave the pampers loose for air.

Then: The use of palm oil to rub the baby's body for clean skin.

Now: The use of Coconut oil for clean and clear skin.

Taking care of a baby (itoju omo in Yoruba) is a lot of fun but also enlightening for new mothers and even grandmas because technology has made things a lot easier.

One of the things I learnt is how babies are bathed. I realise that they need to be bathed thoroughly.

First a body massage with small towel. Lifting them up with their hands as a form of excercise and how to sterilize their bottles.

So mothers, can you share your experiences with taking care of your babies so far?

Feel free to share your thoughts with me below.
