Do not take any types of bullies lightly especially cyberbullying
As a family, we need to protect our young ones from being bullied especially cyberbullying.
Be attentive to your child when they mention to you about being bullied in school.
There were many cases of youths who chose to kill themselves when they were unable to handle the pressure anymore.
You can find many videos of youtube and these are just a few of them below.
In this short article, I will briefly talk about cyberbullying to raise the awareness of family protection against it.
What is cyberbullying?
In simple, cyberbullying comes in the form of the use of internet or mobile phones to harass others with abusive comments or threats that cause mental stress.
The chart below shows the statistics of cyberbullying from Year 2007 to Year 2015.
Be alert when your teenagers have signs of depression.
Are they being mentally tormented by bullies?
Examples of cyberbullying
- Sending offensive/rude/insulting messages or images
- Deliberately isolate someone from online activities like wechat etc
- Spread lies/rumours about someone online using social media and any other forms of online communication platforms
- Use of vulgar languages online against others
Some ideas to advise your children
- Do not give out personal information online
- Do not give their personal photographs or videos online
- Do not let others know their personal password even if they are friends
- Do not open an email from strangers or bullies
- Do not send nasty images or messages because they are angry
How to deal with cyberbullying?
- Use cartoons to educate your child on how to handle cyberbullying
In conclusion
We want to protect our family from cyberbullying as well as other types of bullies.
We also do not want our children to become the bully.
In short, we should educate our children to be responsible and stay safe from places that they can sense potential danger or abuses.
They need to learn to believe in themselves and what others say may not be the truth.
Respect themselves and others to promote a society of harmony.
