Ketamine Approved by FDA for Treatment in DepressionsteemCreated with Sketch.

I should start off this article with a disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor, and none of what I say about pharmaceuticals or the practice of medicine is medical advice. What follows are my thoughts and opinions on depression and its various treatments.

It may be an unknown fact to the reader that almost every school shooter in the history of school shootings in America was on SSRIs or coming down off of SSRIs at the time they committed their heinous crimes. Shocking right!? It’s almost unthinkable, yet, this is the case. In the image below you can see that the owner of SSRIstories.net painstakingly and thoroughly archived many of these instances into a sortable database.

Here’s the thing about depression, the common effects it has on those afflicted by it are anhedonia, lethargy, apathy and at its most extreme, thoughts of self-harm. So it begs the question: why are so many homicides associated with people who are depressed? I would suggest the treatment of depression using SSRIs and the "magic" of biochemical pharmaceuticals – can transform a general sadness into suicidal or homicidal ideations.

If you subscribe to an evolutionary theory of human development, the way depression affects people could very well be a safeguard our bodies deploy to ensure self-preservation, as depressed people should not be motivated when inhabiting such a sorry state of mind.

However, the industry of medicine has learned its lesson with manufacturing permanent solutions to problems. The fact is, they don’t do it anymore. They won’t even do a cost-benefit analysis. It would be a fools’ errand, as it’s common knowledge that there’s far more money in treating disease, disorders, and maladies than there is in curing them.

Therefore, the approach to treating depression was not to strike at the root cause but to generically treat its symptoms. Simply nix the anhedonia, lethargy, and apathy right? Wrong, because now you have a person who has thoughts of harming themselves and you’ve disabled their self-protection mechanisms which motivates them to act on their bad ideas.

The SSRI theory of depression treatment is sordid at best. It’s gone on for several decades now, and the numbers seem to show it does far more harm than good. In fact, some of the labels list depression and homicidal ideations as side effects caused by the various drugs. So, what good are these chemicals if they only serve to make the problem worse?

As you can see in the video above, there is a promising medication for depression that works in as little as a few hours. It doesn’t follow the failed SSRI model, but it will cost you $7,000.00 a month if you want to use it. If you ask me; the entire system is a joke, and it’s no wonder why people turn to drug experimentation and alcohol to address problems that 21st-century technology should have solved decades ago.

"Spravato will go for $5,000-$7,000 in the first month,
and then $2,400-$3,500 per month afterward, he said."

Sort:

that 21st-century technology should have solved decades ago.

That's so true. I remember when I was on SSRI's like 4-5 years ago. I felt I was going insane. I didn't help at all. It actually made things worse.
