Statistical Analysis Debunking Propaganda Against Mothers and Natural Parenting

in #familyprotection6 years ago

A little while ago I posted about a government propaganda campaign that is trying to make mothers sleeping with their children almost criminal. I came across more information on the subject and realized that the information was well worth a share. Some of these information may even seem ridiculous and absurd and they will not make much sense. But I can tell you that I've tried to verify as much as I can as someone who is new to blogging.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Calls C0-Sleeping "Child Abuse"

No kidding. Read: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-cosleep-dcfs-child-abuse-20171116-story.html Department of Children & Family Services will investigate all child deaths reported to the DCFS hotline that involved parents that were co-sleeping with the children according to a policy that took effect in July 2015.DCFS probes are lengthy, can disqualify parents from working if their jobs involve children, and can lead to families being split apart and this is all happenin to grieving parents who lost their child. American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that estimates that around 3,500 infants die of sleep-related deaths every year. That's in a population of 325,719,178 which result in a rate of 1 in 93062.62

Also note that it is just sleep related and doesn't necessarily mean that the parent was the cause.

More Misrepresentations of Facts

Ever seen those stats on gun related deaths? Ever checked how much of them are suicides and accidents? After you take those out, another significant portion comes from mass shooters which couldn't be stopped because nobody around possessed significant force to take down the aggressor.

We have a similar case here. Nobody is presenting the facts about how abusive parents who had problems with drugs, violence, alcoholism etc. Basically we have a situation where loving mothers who are concerned with safety being put together with individuals who are probably not even fit to be decent parents. Basically it is ,like putting mass shooters and responsible gun owners into the same bucket.

Another set of Statistics

Source

Back in the early 1990s, Notre Dame's McKenna decided to do what seemed almost impossible: Figure out just what happens at night when a mom sleeps with a baby.
McKenna and his colleagues transformed his laboratory into an apartment, recruited dozens of moms and babies, and analyzed their bodies while they slept. "We measured heart rate, breathing patterns, chest movement, body temperatures, brain waves — even the carbon dioxide levels between the moms' and babies' faces." They even had infrared cameras to watch how the babies moved around at night.

What McKenna found was remarkable. When the mom is breastfeeding, she essentially creates a little shell around the baby.
"The mother naturally arches her body around her baby," McKenna says. "She pulls up her knees just enough to touch the baby's feet."
Inside this shell, the baby hears the mom's heartbeat and, in turn, changes her own heart rate. "It usually slows down," McKenna says. The baby also hears the mom's breathing, which has a rhythm similar to the sounds the baby heard in the womb.

"It contains that 'swoosh, swoosh' sound," McKenna says, "which in turns sounds like, 'hush, hush little baby.' ... It's no wonder nearly every culture uses a swooshing sound to soothe a crying baby."
The baby also feels the mom's warm breath, which creates little clouds of carbon dioxide around the baby's face. That may sound scary, but the gas stimulates the baby's breathing, according to McKenna. It pokes the baby and says, "Hey, take a deep breath."

And then there is the baby's and mom's movement. McKenna found that throughout the night, breastfed babies in the study don't move all over the bed, willy-nilly. Instead newborns stay laser-focused on one location: "The babies are basically staring at their mother's breast almost all night," he says.
Even babies in cribs, when they're placed close to their moms, have a similar attraction to their mother: They turn their faces to their mom for the majority of the night.
This tells him, McKenna says, that "babies have evolved to experience this closeness, night after night after night."

But AAP shares this jargon: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2016/10/20/peds.2016-2938 (which I've only partially) read and several others and make a firm stance against mothers sleeping with their children.

The AAP is standing by its universal recommendation against bed-sharing, says Dr. Lori Feldman-Winter, a pediatrician at Cooper University Health Care and a member of the AAP’s Task Force on SIDS.

Changed Approach Actually Made Things Better

This was early 2000s and UK changed their approach from that of forbidding bed-sharing to discussions of safer ways to co-sleep. The way they put it was “We recognize and acknowledge that bed-sharing happens. We don’t promote it, but neither do we judge people about it, By doing that, you can open up a conversation with the parents about the really dangerous circumstances when you shouldn’t do it.”

This resulted in falling of SIDS deaths by 40% from about 350 deaths per year to about 200 deaths per year. It's about being caring and responsible. So do the math, think critically and do not belive things just because somebody with authority tell you to believe.

Right but most people are not infants are they?

That's like a 9/11 of all infants every year, that's worth some effort to address.

When they investigate these deaths all too often the parents were drunk or on drugs and that is why they smothered their child. Obviously we need to investigate any child's death thoroughly even if that is unpleasant or inconvenient for the grieving parents.

If you look at the gun deaths stats there is no need to remove mass shooting victims, there are really not that many. Mostly it is teenage gang members shooting each other. The cause of those deaths is the prohibition of drugs and the media would never want anyone to come to that conclusion so they simply ignore all of those cases.

The peanut allergies are an interesting topic, those seem to be becoming so prevalent because people don't give their kids peanuts when they are little because of fears of peanut allergies, doctors should start recommending all children be exposed to peanuts starting from birth.

Now dubbed "Child Abuse" it can enter the Statutes and make more of private life the business of the Law.
