Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born on November 30, 1835 (Missouri, USA) and died on April 21, 1910 (aged 74). It is known for his pseudonym Mark Twain. He was a writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer.
His best-known works are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885). Mark Twain was inspired by the two novels of his childhood in Hannibal, Missouri.
He was later a boat pilot on the Mississippi River. He practiced mining, but he was not successful in this activity. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.
William Faulkner called him "Father of American Literature".
