Growing Tumeric @ Daddy William’s Farm

in #farming5 years ago

We have been living in the Philippines for over 4 years and yesterday my wife made curry. @ronafe makes the most incredible curry! So I asked a few questions about what makes her curry so delicious.

The first answer, I already knew. She takes a cocunut (we have 43 trees bearing fruit) and she grinds the coconut meat, then soaks the ground up cocunut in water and squeezes the milk out of the mixture.

This cocunut milk is used for the base or broth of the curry.

Then she grinds tumeric and ginger out of our garden. The post is about the Tumeric

There are so many health benefits to consuming Tumeric. We put it in as many foods as possible. Also our own ginger, lemongrass, moringa, and many other healthy foods and herbs.

I grow ginger here in New England and wonder if I could also grow turmeric....

From what I see online with a cursory perusal, it only grows in a tropical climate, although one article said you could grow indoors.

This is true of ginger also. I start it inside, then move it to a hoophouse. It does ok here.

Hopefully you will be able to grow Tumeric also!

If I can find organic roots, I may try next year...

Yum. Sounds delicious! I didn’t know tumeric had so many health benefits.

That is the great thing it also tastes great!
