FARMS: Growing cassava in me plot

in #farms6 years ago (edited)
Hello, dear Steemians, especially my friends at @Farms. It is very pleasant for me to share my experiences with you, that is why today I am going to tell you about a tuber widely used in Venezuelan cuisine and which turns out to be indispensable in various dishes. It is mainly used in soups and casabe (a kind of circular, very thin and crispy bread made from cassava flour).

In my small plot my husband and I grow around 30 cassava plants, and although it seems to be too many, they can only be grown once a year.

Yucca is basically a root plant and in order to obtain it it must be extracted from the ground, so it is necessary to cut the tree.

This tuber is of South American origin, cultivated by our aborigines who gave them their name and who cultivated it long before the colonial era, as Venezuela is a country located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn its cultivation turns out to be easy and ideal in our land and even more in view of the atmospheric conditions, this plant adapts to adverse atmospheric times and does not require abundant rainy seasons to be cultivated.

In my country the cassava crop can be started in any season of the year, but the ideal season would be rainy or in the month of May.

To plant cassava on our land we had to look for sweet cassava stakes, since there are two types of cassava: sweet cassava and bitter cassava, the latter is toxic since it has a quantity of cyanide that is harmful to health, so that is not suitable for human consumption.

When the stakes were obtained, we opened holes in the plot, these were shallow and we were planting stake by stake in a row, leaving approximately one meter of separation between each. That alone was needed for planting.

This plant takes about 4 months to grow and get a bush shape, its root, the yucca proper takes around 7 to 8 months to be harvested, as I said before it is a tuber easy to grow.

Next I will show you the process to collect cassava.

I hope you have been to your liking and in a next post I will show you the preparation of Casabe.

Thank you very much friends of @farms, we hope to obtain an excellent harvest of cassava and thus be able to share with neighbors, family and friends.

It is nice what they do, as I certify it, it is a tuber used in our gastronomy and, more healthy than the famous bread flour!

Yes, of course @emiliocabrera better than processed flour, and special a casabe cake to accompany a good soup.
