Hello, dear steemians. According to the theme week of the Farms community: poultry, today the guest of the farm are the ducks. In this opportunity I will give you some advice for the breeding of these birds referred to their food and habitat. It is to tell you, as a curious fact, that many ago I had the opportunity to visit several farms dedicated to the breeding of this animal and I must tell you that they are docile and very calm birds.

The duck is one of the most known and widespread birds around the world. There are approximately 30 species of ducks, with their respective subspecies. For the breeding of these birds, if we decide to raise them, we must keep in mind:

  1. The ducks are birds that belong to the family Anatidae, mainly of the subfamily Anatinae, and within it of the genus Ana.

  2. These birds must spend most of the day outdoors.

  3. It is necessary to place a pond inside your stay that allows you to wash your eyes and legs, in addition to keeping your feathers in good condition. The water should be deep enough so that they can submerge their entire head and can wash their body. The water tank has to have a shallow edge, so that they can come out again easily. It must be about 20 centimeters deep, it's perfect for them.

  4. Your stay should have solid sheets on the ceiling, floor and walls. The space must be wide, so that it is comfortable and that it can walk without impediments.

  5. The shelter should be ventilated, located in a shady area and provide protection from the wind. Try to place rice husk, so as not to damage its legs, or other flexible material.

  6. Put some material for them to build their nests or if you decide to do it remember to condition it with straw or wood shavings.

  7. Never feed the ducks mold, as it can cause respiratory diseases or toxic reactions.

  8. Remember to keep your water clean, you must change it every day.

  9. Up to 3 weeks of age, they need a diet with high levels of protein. After 3 weeks and up to a maximum of 20 weeks of age, they should include a protein level of approximately 15% in their diet.

  10. Do not feed your duck with mashed food as they can choke on it and do not forget that bread should not be a regular part of your main diet.

  11. In the case of vegetables, try those that are green, they are very good for them. Many love watermelon, you can also give it a small portion.

Keeping in mind these tips for raising these birds you will succeed. If your ducks grow in a clean environment, with a balanced diet, they should not present major health problems. Rarely suffer from worms or intestinal mites. However, they must be dewormed every 6 months.
