Hello friend of the farm is this opportunity I am going to talk to you how to grow green beans and what are their benefits. Almost everyone likes to enjoy a good plate of green beans to maintain a good diet. The bean, scientifically named Phaseolus vulgaris, belongs to the family of legumes as well as beans, peas, lentils or chickpeas.
Of the bean we take advantage of its fruit, a pod that can be consumed fresh when it is young (as green bean) or dry when it is left to mature and is flaked to consume as a bean or legume. Green beans are grown by direct sowing. They are plants that do not support transplants well and have little survival success.

PROPERTIES
It is a vegetable rich in protein, fiber, vitamin A, C, E and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. It is reputed to reduce cholesterol thanks to the soluble fiber content and prevent cancer because of its antioxidant content.

TYPES OF JEWS
Beans of low mat: they are usually planted in lines or furrows spaced about 40-50cm, putting four to five seeds, burying them about 2 or 3cm in successive holes separated by 30 to 40cm.
Beans of enrame or high bush: they require separations between lines or furrows of 60 to 75cm to facilitate their development and maintain adequate ventilation. Regarding the number of seeds and their disposition, it is the same as the low-matured beans.
We remind you that green beans are plants that, in general, are very fragile. Therefore, it is advisable to place a padding, ideally organic, to control the herbs and keep the soil aerated and humid.
The low-matured beans do not need tutors (canes or sticks) but the high ones do. The latter grow by coiling in rigid elements that are close. To correct this, tutors sticks of about 2 meters high are placed to go up them.
The most common structure to place the tutors is the pyramid. It is achieved by joining the rods of two lines, tilting and tying them in the center

WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT CULTIVATING GREEN JEWS, WE HAVE TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FOLLOWING:
THE WEATHER.
If the area where we live frequently has temperatures lower than 10 degrees, the amount of light that is able to receive throughout the day is reduced. As you would expect from a plant that needs to do photosynthesis, this does not allow it to grow. Therefore, it is necessary that the climate be warmer or temperate. There may be some frosts from time to time, but we can protect them well.
If we plant it in windy areas, we must protect it with some fences or something that prevents the continuous flow. They are fragile plants that do not support the incidence of wind directly for a long time.

TO THE SOIL OR SUBSTRATE
They do not develop well in lands that are cold or wet. The first thing that is thought is to maintain a high level of humidity to proliferate the species. However, they can not live in dry environments either. We have to find a balance so that the plant does not suffer. It is in irrigation that we ensure that the plant has the degree of humidity that is best for it.
Green beans favor the softest and well-dug soils. The more humus you have, the more nutrients you can incorporate into your roots. It does not have to have traces of fresh organic matter. When choosing the plot where we will plant it, we will look for one that has a direct sun location. It is necessary that the soil is heated so that the plant develops well. This is only achieved if the sun gives

SOURCE

SUBSCRIBER
They do not need nitrogen inputs since they themselves are able to fix the nitrogen of the air to the soil as a nutrient thanks to the symbiosis with the Rhizobium fungus, something like an agreement of mutual benefit between the beans and this microorganism

SOURCE

IRRIGATION
The beans are demanding in the amount and frequency of irrigation. This should be abundant especially during the summer, avoiding always wetting the leaves to avoid pests and diseases. It is necessary that the soil does not dry out completely, but also that it is not excessively moist. We will not water it abundantly in the first flowering period, as it could cause flowers to fall

HOW GREEN JEWS ARE CULTIVATED IN THE GARDEN

You can plant green beans from April to July or August if they are to be eaten fresh. If they are for shearing, that is to say, for dried beans, it is convenient that you do not sow them very late (until June) so that they give time to ripen before the arrival of the first cold.
The green beans are sown from seed directly in the pot where they will grow or in the final field, it is not necessary to make seedbeds.
Germinate with daytime temperatures above 20 ° C but it is important to control night temperatures. To ensure that freshly sprouted plants do not die, you can delay sowing until the danger of late frosts has passed or protect them with a thermal blanket on the nights of April and the first two weeks of May in the coldest areas. In temperate and warm areas you will not have a problem with this.
In the field, bury the seeds about 3 cm deep, compact the soil and then water. You must leave 40 cm of separation between rows for dwarf varieties and 70 cm for climbing varieties.

In containers (cultivation tables, drawers and pots), sow at the same depth one seed of dwarf variety per pot and 2 or 3 seeds separated about 40 cm in the case of tables of culture.

AN ADVICE MORE ABOUT SEEDS
Always buy quality seeds, since green beans are delicate plants and in some cases the production is reduced by virus-borne seeds.
Green beans are an easy crop to obtain from seeds but if you have spent time on it and you are late to plant or if you sow but you have some holes, with seeds that did not germinate, you can choose to acquire directly a bean plant from kills high or low bean plant for your garden.

SOURCE

PESTS, DISEASES
Green beans have some pests and diseases that can be attacked. The first is the black and green aphid. To relieve it, apply potassium soap together with neem oil.
The second plague is that of the red spider that appears when there is a lack of irrigation. Perhaps the most important is that of powdery mildew, since it is the one that arises when there is excess moisture. It may happen that we have watered and it rains again, accumulating an excess of humidity and puddling. To eliminate it is enough to have a good aeration.

SOURCE

HARVEST
For the harvest we have to wait about two or three months until the harvest. If we want to obtain a dry bean, we will have to wait another month. The plant is fragile, so we will try not to damage the branches, pods and more tender flowers when we harvest. To maintain a good production, it is advisable to water copiously after the harvest.
