Agricultural practices is an age long activity of man for food production and in most part of the African communities back in the days, the number of sons will determine the extent of the farmland. This is because they basically rely on human labour to cultivate the farmland.

With this comes the crude method of farming for clearing, tilling the soils, ridge making, planting and much more.

Human labour is still well practiced and still the cheapest method of farming predominantly in many areas around the world.

COMMUNITY / COOPERATIVE FARMING
Some communities go out at particular times with about 30- 50 people to weed the farm and do their planting all at once to cover more grounds. This practice is still carried out during harvest. Other ways of using the service of human labour to ensure everyone participates is by cooperative farming. This has developed the farming in such areas and yielded more produce for everyone involved.

FARM WORKER HIRE
There are those who hire human labourers for their farm activities. The workers are feed, provided with a shelter to rest before they are paid at the end of the day. This is more common nowadays. It is one method I am happy to have employed in my farm. It is quite cheap and effective when you employ the right people and you can trust them.

There are farm managers hired to manage peoples farms. The hiring of labourers, the planting and overall management of the farmland is being managed by the manager who probably lives in in the farm house to effectively see to the best productivity the farm can produce. Poultry, piggery, fishery farms are mostly managed by people who are employed labour to manage these farms.

Human labour is the best way to start a farm. Like me after the first clearing of my farm, we did the planting ourselves so as to save cost. If the finance is not readily available, you become the labourer in your farm. This will help you learn on the job as you progress and if there is need to expand, you hire labourers to join in to help you so you can grow steadily. Human labour cannot be overemphasised in farmland agriculture. The use of whatever machinery needs a human labour to operate them to bring out the best in the machine.

Human labour is beneficial is various ways
● It is best for starters with low capital to start their farms

● Community or. Cooperative farming is well practiced

● It is cost effective to use labourers when machineries cannot aquired.

● It helps build relationship between the farmers

● This allows the soil to regenerate faster thannwhen tilled with tractors

●Erosion and leaching of the soil is minimised with human labour on amfarm land.

● Human labour is exercise for the farmer and brings one close to nature.

Skills and expertise put into farming is as aresult of human labour. There are various ways of planting, tending to and harvesting various crops. The right skills and tecnical knowhow makes the difference.

Happy farming.

All pictures are different stages in my farm with the use of human labour and my humble self.

Steemchurch farm will feed the world one community at a time.
