in #farms6 years ago

Over time, man has been trying to improve more in the technological aspect of agriculture, technology in agriculture started becoming vivid in 20th century although then lot of persons saw it as a great achievement in the agricultural sector, seeing it as a way of making farming life easy but it was at the beginning of the 21th century that the advancement of technology became rapid in the agriculture area and had indeed brought a better face to agriculture, making farm work earlier and faster than ever.
I would love to take us back on how technology in the agriculture was, over the last few years:

Remember in1930s and late 1960s the "The Green Revolution" when Henry Wallace which was the US vice president of that time initiated a research programme for the technology improvement in agriculture, this indeed brought a worldwide increment to agriculture. With the help of four scientist, coming together just to ensure growth in agriculture and during that period a man named Dr. Norman Barlaug who was referred to as "The Father Of Green Revolution", with his help in the crop management techniques and new irrigation, this really helped in the growing of new wheat varieties across the world.

Technology also found his way to the 70s, like the Roundup that was done in 1974 which brought a new herbicide called Glyphosate-based Herbicide, indeed this really help farmers in aspect of weed control among plants.

Also it was in that same 70s that the Rotary Combines was introduced and this was made by Sperry-new Holland, Rotary combine was useful to farmers because it could cut and at same time separate crop, it's usefulness was paramount in the harvest of corn. Obviously lots of technology achievement was made in the 70s, I wonder how farmers would have felt during that period, seeing farm work as being easy than before.

In 1982, the biotech crop which was used in agriculture and this was actually the first genetic plant cell that was modified, lots of work was put into by the scientists ( those at the mosanto company), they really did a great job because farmers still adopt the genetically modified technology (GM tech) even up to date, although the DNA has undergone series of modification in other to produce new trait to plants.

It was in the 90s around 1994 that farmers started thinking wide, they saw the need fullness of The Satellite, nothing can be hidden from the satellite and the advancement of satellite really helped farmers to view their crops, it provided a suitable and nice planning and tracking enhancement in farming.

Do you know that the smart phone and software have great use in agriculture? indeed technology has really brought growth to the agricultural sector and in that farmers now see the usefulness of mobile device in agriculture. After making cultivation and harvest, farmers can now use the smart phone to find buyers for their crops and even livestocks and not only that, they could order for planting seeds or fertilisers and this can be done at any place in time, it was in 2000s that farmers started seeing the usefulness of mobile devices and software in agriculture and up still date farmers have really key to that effect of technology in agriculture, it has really helped farmers to bring them powerful information just to enable them make decisions in terms of agriculture. Technology have also provided machines to enhance cultivation and also harvesting, surely one can tell that technology have impacted more to agriculture.
